The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Each time a prominent prize-giving event approaches, one notices a demand for introducing additional classifications to recognize unsung work and fill the passions of enthusiasts with niche passions.

My colleague has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are board games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and inevitably start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. However, it represents an essential concession for the industry of gaming, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Think about these recent excellent titles, all very different: building puzzles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Which classification works between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked completely in 2014
  • Another creative title received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked that year
  • Only a few brain-teasers managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent compact experiences, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as the most-played games worldwide and have been for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges famous sandbox experiences competing to become highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and engaging across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. One could readily select multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators are working at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Just like cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
